The next Social Media Council is scheduled for June 5 and we have quite a bit packed in the last session of the semester.
Two big advancements making social media at BC more visible will be launched in upcoming weeks: BC Social, the University social media convergence site, and BC Student Affairs’ aggregator page. Both sites have been designed by ITS Web Technology Group and fill a substantial need at BC – centrality in our social media offerings. SMC co-chairs Patti Delaney and Melissa Beecher will walk though the overview of the convergence site and Student Affairs Communication Specialist Lisa Berasi will present the aggregator.
This month the “Social Spotlight” will shine on two exciting “firsts” that have been accomplished this semester – the utilization of Google+ hangouts and the cross departmental collaboration of Boston College LinkedIn page.
On May 2, Kristen Baumann, Associate Director of Graduate Management Admissions at CSOM successfully moderated a Google+ hangout for prospective students around the world on the BC Google+ page. Kristen will speak to the SMC about her strategy behind the hour-long session and offer insights on what we can learn from this underutilized resource. To read more about the hangout, click here.
The Boston College LinkedIn page has been a new addition to the University social media offerings this semester. A collaborative effort between the Office of News & Public Affairs, Human Resources, the BC Career Center and Alumni, the LinkedIn page has increased BC’s visibility in professional circles. The members of the administrative team will share their thoughts on the past two months and talk about some exciting new changes to this platform.
It seems fitting that before we all break for summer we discuss the idea of social media fatigue. Do you feel burned out as an administrator? Are your users as engaged or less so with what you have been posting? Have you started to scale back on some of your social channels? We want to hear about challenges you have been facing and brainstorm ways we can help one another.
